Coppermine engaged MRA to help transform a 35-acre site in Edgewood into CopperPlex, a leading outdoor sports and recreation complex near I-95. The facility features eight turf fields with LED lighting, a 10,000-square-foot fieldhouse with a performance training center, concessions, restrooms, and over 600 parking spaces. It serves local youth and adult sports programs, camps, and clinics, while also hosting regional tournaments that draw teams from across the East Coast.
The site’s redevelopment posed challenges due to its former use as army barracks, aging infrastructure, and a 60-foot elevation change. The site is also bordered by residential neighborhoods and shares an access road with an elementary school.
MRA provided surveying, civil engineering, site planning, and landscape architecture services. Through collaboration with stakeholders, MRA addressed grading with retaining walls, providing for ADA and emergency access, and designed landscaped buffers between fields and nearby homes. Stormwater was effectively managed beneath the turf fields to meet environmental regulations.
